An Orgasam on a Cone

Sometimes the best things in life are found when we are not even looking for them…
Suggesting that Milan, Italy is a good place to get world-class ice cream is like pointing out that one can find excellent fish tacos in Mexico. However, the decadent and sensual ice cream experience I had at Chocolat Milano goes way beyond simply stating the obvious.
Having gone to Milan to visit a friend working there, I ended up with a day to myself while he was at work. Not being one for convention, I decided to wander the streets map-less and somehow ended up on Via Boccaccio. With a line out the door and beautiful people crowding around outside on the sidewalk, it was hard to miss Chocolat Milano. What struck me about this cafe was that it wasn’t tourists waiting to order, but locals. Italian men and women in business suits had taken a break from their busy work days to wait in line for a little scoop (or two…or three) of heaven. I wasn’t even in the mood for ice cream, but knew that I had to see what all the commotion was about. Despite what I imagined would be a ridiculously long wait, I had nothing better to do (thank god). With the staff’s superior scooping abilities, I was at the front of the line in less than five minutes. I suddenly felt a rush of anxiety as I realized that I had to make a hasty decision between 25 different flavors of ice cream/sorbet while a line of eager Italians waited behind me. I went with one I hadn’t had before: Cinnamon, and one that I love: Coffee. OK, maybe it doesn’t sound like the best combination, but I’m not sure that there are two flavors there that wouldn’t taste great together. I sat down at the only open seat and had my first (and only) taste of sex on a cone. The cinnamon was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever had in my mouth. It was so incredible that I would have gotten back in line for round II, except for the fact that I was too embarrassed to be 1) the only tourist in the cafe, and 2) the only tourist in the cafe without self-control going back for seconds. In retrospect, screw self-restraint, I should’ve have gotten back in line. I even tried to buy a t-shirt, but they were sold out.
While Milan is not my favorite city - Chocolat Milano is by far my favorite ice cream parlor. If you’re ever in Milan, it is should be #1 on your to-do list.
